How to Update Old MS Stream Video Links to New Stream on SharePoint Links in Blackboard and MichBrite
Why do you need to do this?
All video content is now located in the Michener Video Repository (MVR) on SharePoint. The migration of video content from Old Stream to Stream on SharePoint was completed in February 2024.
However, all links to the migrated videos are currently Old Stream links that redirect to the Stream on SharePoint links. This redirect service provided by Microsoft will end on February 15, 2025. Therefore, any link (or embed code) for a video that was formerly hosted on Old Stream must be updated before that date. This applies to any video uploaded before May 15, 2023.
How to Identify Links That Need Updating
You can determine if a link needs to be updated by looking at it:
- Old Stream Link: Starts with https://web.microsoftstream.com/video/.
- New Stream on SharePoint Link: Starts with https://michener.sharepoint.com/etc or displays the name of the video file as part of the link (e.g., "A Soup to Nuts Introduction to the Simulation Process . . .").
Steps to Update a Link
Step 1: Click on the video link in your course. The video will open in Stream.
Step 2: In the upper right corner of the Stream window, click SHARE.
Step 3: Click COPY LINK in the drop-down menu
Step 4: Go back to your course (ideally in MichBrite), click Edit and enable editing.
Step 5: Paste the new link.
And that's it! Your video link is now updated. This technique works wherever you can have a video.
