Staff - Setting up the Michener VPN - GlobalProtect - macOS

Prerequisites

To connect to Michener VPN, the following prerequisite must be completed:

• A computer running macOS 10.13 or higher. Earlier versions of macOS are unsupported.
• Microsoft Authentication app must be installed on your mobile device
• Multi-Factor Authentication must be enabled and set on your Michener account
• Multi-Factor Authentication method must be set to “Microsoft Authenticator - notification”

Client Download

Step 1 – To access the Michener VPN, open any web browser (e.g. Safari, Firefox, Chrome or Edge) and enter "connect.michener.ca"  in the address bar. A GlobalProtect Network VPN page should load. Enter the same username and password you use to log into your computer or email.

Step 2 – You will receive a notification on the Microsoft Authentication App on your device. Click “Approve“ to authenticate your login.

Step 3 – After you have authenticated yourself, You will be redirected to the GlobalProtect Download website where you will begin the installation process. Click “Download Mac 32/64-Bit GlobalProtect Agent”. Save the installation file to your “Downloads” Folder.

Client Install

Step 1 –  Locate the installer in Downloads and double-click on the GlobalProtect Installer to open.

Step 2 – The installer package for GlobalProtect will open. Click “Continue”

Step 3 – When asked what packages to install, Check the "GlobalProtect" checkbox and Click "Continue". 

Step 4 – Click “Install” to perform the standard installation.

Step 5 –  Enter your Mac account password when prompted.

Step 6 – The installer should then complete. Click “Close” to close it.

Launching Global Protect

Step 1 – Now Click Finder, select "Search" and put GlobalProtect. The Global Protect Client should appear. click the application to open. The alternative method is by clicking Launchpad and typing ”Global”.

Step 2 – In the GlobalProtect client, Click "Get Started" type "connect.michener.ca" and click “Connect”.

Step 3 - It will prompt you for your username and password. This is the same username and password you use to log onto Michener computers & email account.

NOTE: Please follow the login template

Username: MICHENER\<Username>. Ex. MICHENER\TStaff
Password: <Your current password>

Then Click “Connect”. 

Step 4 – You will receive a notification on the Microsoft Authentication App on your device. Click “Approve“ to authenticate your login.

Step 5 - You should now be successfully connected to Michener VPN. You can now access services internal to the Michener network.

NOTE: If your client is out of date, it will now auto-update.

Step 6 – To disconnect from the VPN, Click “Disconnect”. To reconnect in the future, choose “Connect”.
